The Short Version
Yard Champ stores your lawn data on your device only. There are no accounts, no logins, no email collection, and no advertising. Photos you analyze are sent to an AI service to generate care advice; nothing is sold, shared with marketers, or used to identify you.
1. What We Collect
Yard Champ is built to collect as little as possible. Here's what happens to each type of data:
- Lawn data you enter (zones, grass type, square footage, activity logs, photos, health scores) — stored locally on your device only. Never uploaded to our servers.
- Photos you analyze with AI — sent to our proxy and then to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the analysis. Photos are not retained on our servers after the response is returned.
- Approximate location — if you grant location permission, your device sends latitude/longitude to Open-Meteo to fetch the local weather forecast. We do not retain or log this location.
- Anonymous device identifier — the app generates a random ID stored locally and sends it with API requests so we can enforce the monthly AI usage cap. It cannot be tied to your name, email, or Apple ID.
- Purchase records — if you buy Yard Champ Pro, RevenueCat (our IAP processor) and Apple handle the transaction. We receive a confirmation that your device has the Pro entitlement; we do not see your Apple ID, credit card, or billing address.
2. What We Don't Collect
- No accounts, usernames, or passwords.
- No email addresses (unless you choose to email us directly).
- No advertising identifiers (IDFA).
- No analytics, crash reporters, or behavioral tracking.
- No background location.
3. Third-Party Services
Yard Champ uses a small number of third parties strictly to provide the app's features:
4. Children
Yard Champ is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
5. Your Choices
- Decline permissions: you can deny camera and location access in iOS Settings. The app will still work; photo analysis and weather features will be unavailable.
- Delete your data: open Settings inside the app and tap "Clear All Data," or uninstall the app. Both wipe every byte stored on your device.
- Export your data: Settings → "Export Data" saves a JSON copy you control.
6. Data Security
Lawn data lives on your device's encrypted storage. API requests use HTTPS. Because we don't store user data on our servers, the surface area for a breach involving your information is minimal.
7. Changes to This Policy
If we update this policy, the "Effective" date at the top will change. Material changes will be disclosed in the app's release notes.
